Our Mission
Le Nichoir Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre was founded in 1994 as a non-profit organization (#894112358RR001) and is located in Hudson, Quebec.
Le Nichoir is a licensed centre, part of a community of North American rehabilitators, supported by the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC) and the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA).
Our mission is to conserve wild birds as part of our natural heritage.
Le Nichoir provides proper care and treatment for injured, sick, or orphaned wild birds and releases them back into their natural habitat.
Le Nichoir also provides advice and information about wild birds and their environment through educational programs and annual public events.
There is no charge asked for any of our services.
In 1995 Le Nichoir received 478 birds. Today, it is the largest rehabilitation centre for songbirds in Canada. We admit more than 1400 wild birds and receive 5000 telephone calls each year.
Bird Conservation Story of the Week

Chipping Sparrow (adult)
Issue: This sparrow was brought to the Centre because it flew into a resident of Hudson’s bay window.
Treatment: The bird was not moving and in shock. It was placed in the Bird Protection Quebec's “Quiet Room” to recuperate where there is minimal noise and no visitors. It was given pain management and within 48 hours, the sparrow was flying normally and ready for release.
Result: A young volunteer released the sparrow back where it was found, near Cameron Street, and it was able to rejoin its small flock.
Did you know? You can prevent wild birds from hitting your windows by hanging ribbons, drawing designs with a yellow highlighter (birds can see ultra-violet light) or by putting silhouettes of birds of prey in your window. You can also spray soapy water on the glass to reduce the reflection.
